Ginger Katz, founder and CEO of the foundation and author of "Sunny's Story," said, "We present Ian's story to the students and parents in the schools in Norwalk."
Ian graduated from Norwalk High School and went on to the University of Hartford. The mission of the Courage to Speak Foundation is to save lives by empowering youth to be drug free.
"My book is told from our family beagles perspective," Katz said. 'Sunny the family beagle tells my son Ian's story and tried to wake me up the night Ian died. Sunny's message was undelivered. Ian did not have a second chance."
The Courage to Speak Drug Prevention Curriculum was developed and piloted in Norwalk and has expanded to over 87 towns nationally.
Katz said medical experts advised her not to talk publicly about her son's death, but she has learned otherwise about the power of sharing his story and saving other lives.
